Here’s some more thought-provoking social media news I’ve come across lately and thought you might be able to learn from, too.
Keeping Up with the Algorithm
I recently talked to someone at an event about the “joy” of keeping up with changes on every platform. (Can you hear the sarcasm?)
Personally, I don’t find it so bad because it piques my curiosity — a trait I honed well as a journalist. My brain goes, “Oooh, what’s that?!?!”
We can’t pretend that there aren’t constant changes to each platform’s algorithm, which tends to alter how they prioritize what content to show to more people.
And this one definitely sparked that curiosity – always a good idea to listen to the platform itself when it’s telling you how to make the most of being there.
So this was a helpful article to read. I especially agree with their points about video. Check it out!
Who to Optimize Content For
Oof, can’t say I’m a fan of what the Instagram chief said about how much people use the main feed — you know, what most nonprofits and small businesses focus on creating content for. But still, I’d rather know than stick my head in the sand, and I suggest you do the same. Better to know so you can decide how (or if) to adapt, right?
See what the Instagram chief said.
Shifting to New Platforms
When asked what platform you should be on, I always respond with 2 questions:
- Where is your audience?
- Where do you have a following and where are you comfortable?
The answer depends on how you respond. But we’re continuing to see people move off the giant platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and to new ones. While I advise my clients to open accounts on new platforms, mainly Threads and Bluesky, creating content there can be challenging.
This article has some good tips and making the shift effectively … without going crazy.
