What could I learn from my metrics?

Is looking at metrics worth the time?

One trend I find pretty consistent among business owners and nonprofits griping about their social media is that they don’t know what ISN’T working.

That’s always a big thing I learn by looking at metrics regularly.

Besides seeing what types of posts are working (hint: video of you does best!), it’s helpful to see when your followers are on social media so you catch them there!

I recently saw this chart when reviewing the LinkedIn metrics for one of my clients. Common practice is to post on LinkedIn only on weekdays because it’s a business platform — lots of people scroll that as part of their job, for sales or other outreach activities.

But here, you can see that’s not quite the best days for this client. They have way more impressions on Sundays than on Fridays. But as expected, Saturdays are slow, too.

So, I immediately rescheduled some posts for Sundays instead of Fridays, when the post is more likely to get more eyeballs.

That’s the point of looking at your metrics: it helps you do things better because you have more information. So use it! You don’t have to just guess, Google or follow a hunch.

So, be honest: how often do you look at your metrics? Have you found anything unexpected that changed how you do things to help you be more effective?
